California Nonfatal Injury Rates Continue 12-Year Decline

California’s occupational injury and illness rate is the lowest it’s been in 13 years. Keep reading to find out what’s going right in the Golden State.

The state’s Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) recently posted data for 2014 showing a rate of 3.8 nonfatal recordable injuries per 100 full-time workers, which continues a 12-year downward trend. The rate in 2013 was 4.0. The rates of cases with lost work time (days away from work, job transfer, or job restriction) and cases requiring days away from work were also consistent with the downward trend, at 2.2 and 1.2 cases per 100 full-time workers, respectively.

However, employers in industry sectors that have a disproportionate share of work-related injuries must focus on prevention to further protect the health and safety of employees.”
