OSHA: Poultry Plant Cited in Dangerous Chemical Release

The nation’s largest chicken producer failed to use proper safety procedures, which caused a significant release of a highly hazardous chemical. Find out how the agency reacted to this repeat violation.

In September 2015, the release of 79 pounds (lb) of anhydrous ammonia endangered workers at the company’s Waco, Texas, plant. (The company is headquartered in Colorado.) Anhydrous ammonia is a dangerous chemical that can be fatal when inhaled and causes serious burns to the skin.
