Q&A: Paying for Fall Protection

Recently, a subscriber asked the following question:

Are employers responsible for providing and paying for body harnesses and lanyards for construction projects?

This was our response:

Yes, employers are required to provide and pay for any personal protective equipment (PPE) used to comply with an OSHA standard, including fall protection. A November 2014 letter of interpretation provides additional guidance on employer payment for PPE.
