Alabama Auto Parts Supplier, Staffing Agencies Face Millions in Fines

The dreams of a young bride-to-be were tragically snuffed out in an incident at a plant that stamps metal parts for automobiles. Learn more about the events that led to huge fines for the manufacturer and the agencies involved in the hiring of this employee.

On June 18, 2016, this 20-year-old employee was crushed to death in a robotic machine. That day, according to OSHA, the assembly line stopped and the employee and three of her co-workers entered a robotic station to clear a sensor fault. The robot restarted abruptly, crushing the worker inside the machine. Her death occurred two weeks before the day her wedding was to take place.

An OSHA investigation led to citations for 23 willful, serious, and other-than-serious violations, including 19 egregious violations for the employer. OSHA also cited two staffing agencies for two serious safety violations each. Collectively, the businesses face $2.5 million in penalties.
