In its September 18, 2015, announcement that Volkswagen AG had installed illegal emission defeat devices in 500,000 four-cylinder diesel vehicles sold in the U.S. since 2008, the EPA said it would continue testing the company’s vehicles for compliance with the Clean Air Act.
The Agency did just that and on November 2 announced that an additional 10,000 six-cylinder vehicles sold by VW and several subsidiaries were also supplied with defeat devices. The new notice of violation sent to the company specifies that the devices were installed in the 2014 VW Touareg, 2015 Porsche Cayenne, and 2016 Audi A6 Quattro, A7 Quattro, A8, A8L, and Q5. Both Porsche and Audi are part of the VW Group.
The new alleged violations are identical to the previous misdeeds, for which VW senior management took responsibility. But VW initially refused to admit the second round of alleged violations are correct.
