The House and Senate released a single bill to reform the 1976 Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). The Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act was posted on the website of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW).
The bill that was posted replaces a law that virtually all stakeholders view as grossly ineffective in regulating dangerous chemicals. In a press conference yesterday, Senate leaders announced that a few details remained to be ironed out. Senator James Inhofe (R-OK), EPW chair, the said he expects the final bill to be sent to and signed by President Obama before the May 28 congressional recess.
