Is the building an elementary or secondary school under the control of a local education agency?
If yes, have the following received appropriate training as follows:
- School maintenance and custodial staff that may work in a building containing asbestos-containing building material (ACBM): 2 hours of awareness training, including the following, within 60 days of commencing employment:
- Information regarding asbestos and its various uses and forms?
- Information on the health effects associated with asbestos exposure?
- Locations of ACBM identified throughout each school building in which they work?
- Recognition of damage, deterioration, and delamination of ACBM?
- Name and telephone number of the person designated to carry out general local education agency responsibilities (see 40 CFR 763.84) and the availability and location of the management plan?

- Employees performing activities that may disturb ACBM: 2 hours of awareness training, including the aforementioned, plus an additional 14 hours of training on the following:
- Descriptions of the proper methods of handling ACBM?
- Information on the use of respiratory protection as contained in the EPA/National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Guide to Respiratory Protection for the Asbestos Abatement Industry, September 1986 (EPA 560/OPPTS–86–001) and other personal protection measures?
- Discussions of the applicable regulations (i.e., operation and maintenance provisions at 40 CFR 763.91, worker protection provisions at 40 CFR 763, Subpart G, and the asbestos emissions provisions at 40 CFR 61, Subpart M)?
