On episode 115 of EHS On Tap, Greg Myka, senior manager and compliance team lead in Verizon’s EHS group, talks about Verizon’s focus on workplace safety.
Myka is a Senior Manager and Compliance Team Lead in Verizon’s Environment, Health, and Safety group. The EHS Compliance Team’s responsibilities include driving a positive EHS culture through employee communication campaigns, learning pathways, newsletters, and engagement activities. The team developed and implemented the EHS department’s Management System, which is certified to ISO 14001 (environmental) and ISO 45001 (health and safety) standards.
In addition to providing support to field-facing safety and environmental management teams, Myka’s team also reviews and comments on EHS regulations and advises on compliance initiatives; manage the EHS website; consult on acquisition and divestiture due diligence; approve waste disposal facilities, and oversee environmental remediation. The team also supports global sales and marketing efforts, and partners with the Sustainability and Environment and Social Governance (ESG) teams when participating in industry and investor benchmarking initiatives.
Prior to joining Verizon, he was an employee and shareholder in a design-build consulting and construction company in the environmental field. The company primarily engaged in environmental remediation, chemical and petroleum storage system design, installation, and maintenance; regulatory compliance management system development and implementation; and civil engineering projects.
