1. Employers must provide training to each employee who is required to use PPE. Employees must be trained to know at least:

  • When PPE is necessary
  • What PPE is necessary
  • How to properly don, doff, adjust, and wear

    PPE

  • The limitations of the PPE
  • The proper care, maintenance, useful life, and disposal of the PPE

2. An “exit route” is a continuous and unobstructed path of exit within a workplace to a place of safety (including refuge areas). It consists of three parts: the exit access, the exit, and the exit discharge. An exit route includes all vertical and horizontal areas along the route. 

3. An employer will be found to be in violation of the General Duty Clause if it can be shown that all of the following occurred:

  • A hazard existed
  • The hazard was likely to cause death or serious physical harm
  • The employer knew of the hazard or should have known because the hazard had been recognized by the employer, the industry, or common sense
  • he hazard was foreseeable
  • Workers were exposed to the hazard

4. OSHA Form 300A is the Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses.
The summary is a list of injuries and illnesses that were recorded on the OSHA 300 Log during the previous calendar year. The summary has to be posted in the workplace from February 1 to April 30 each year.

5. The standard requires employers to review the emergency action plan with each employee. Training should be conducted:

  • Initially, when the plan is developed
  • For all new employees
  • When an employee’s job, responsibilities, or location under the plan change
  • When the plan has changed
