New Apps Help Employers Control Distracted Driving

AT&T has released two mobile apps aimed at reducing dangerous driving behavior among employees.

Associate PLEDGE® lets businesses conduct real-time monitoring and helps enforce distracted driving policies. According to AT&T, the tool is best suited for mobile employees, fleet drivers, and sales teams who regularly travel or operate company vehicles. Using the app, employers can block calls, text messages, and push-to-talk capability while vehicles are in motion.

The second app, SafeCell Enterprise®, lets businesses use GPS technology to monitor use of digital devices on fleet vehicles. Users can also tell how fast employees are driving and whether they are complying with safe-driving policies. Employers can block e-mail, texting, social media websites, and Web browsing while employees are in transit.

Another AT&T service known as DriveMode® sends a reply to incoming text messages notifying the sender that the recipient is driving and cannot respond.

As company resources get tighter, many safety departments are being reduced in size, and the safety employees that remain are being asked to do much more with much less. BLR’s upcoming live webinar will help you meet the challenges you face every day and succeed in performing your job successfully.

“Mobile devices are making it easy for businesses to rely on employees who work off-site,” commented AT&T Senior Vice President Chris Hill. “But when those devices are used while driving, employees can put themselves and others at risk.”

The offerings are all part of AT&T’s It Can Wait campaign that seeks to stigmatize texting while driving. Learn more.

Leverage Limited Safety Resources

As company resources get tighter, many safety departments are being reduced in size, and the safety employees that remain are being asked to do much more with much less.

Many organizations, especially small- and medium-sized companies, have become so lean that only one safety professional, usually with no professional or administrative support staff, IS the safety department. If this is what has occurred in your company, you have the challenge of performing your job effectively while meeting senior management’s expectations. So, what resources are available to you? How can you do more with less, meet management’s expectations, and run a successful safety program?

Join us for an in-depth webinar on September 9. Our speaker, a seasoned EHS professional and attorney who has helped other companies succeed in leveraging limited safety program resources, will lay out a process that will help you “play the cards that you have been dealt” and make the best use of available resources.

You and your colleagues will learn:

  • Why the first critical step is to develop a well-thought out proposal to present to senior management and describe how this can be best accomplished
