Everybody, even your hardest working team members, takes breaks on the job. New research says understanding and planning work breaks can benefit both employees and employers.
Two Baylor University professors asked workers to complete surveys about their break habits. After analyzing the data, they found that the typical culture of working hard all morning to take a lunchtime or midafternoon break may not be the best idea. The study authors wrote, “We found that when more hours had lapsed since the beginning of the work shift … more symptoms of poor health were reported after a break. Therefore, breaks later in the day seem to be less effective.”
