Employers in the state of Washington may see their workers’ compensation insurance costs rise in 2016, as the state’s Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) is proposing an average 2 percent rate increase for 2016. The proposed increase comes out to a little more than 1 cent per hour worked, according to the press release.
The state also has several initiatives underway that focus on helping injured workers heal and get back to work, improving service, and reducing costs. These include promoting injury prevention, ensuring that injured workers receive equality health care, supporting employers who want to keep injured workers on a job, and improving the workers’ compensation claims process. L&I says these and other improvements have resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars in savings in the past year.
