Air Force Base Winning the Battle Against High Workers’ Comp Costs

For the past several years, excessive workers’ compensation costs have been the target of a concerted effort at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia. Keep reading to find out how the battle is being fought—and won.

For the third straight year, Robins AFB has seen its workers’ compensation claims decline. This year, the site installation saved $1.2 million, which represented 21 percent of the Air Force’s overall drop of $5.6 million in workers’ compensation.

One factor in the improvement is the facility’s FAST FORWARD clinic, which opened in 2013. The acronym stands for First Aid Station, Treatment, and Forward Operating Rehabilitation of Workers Accentuating Restorative Dynamics. Conveniently located on the Robins flight line, the clinic permits injured employees to be treated more quickly and saves the time required to visit an off-base facility. Staff members include a dedicated nurse practitioner and three sports rehabilitation specialists.
