Emergency Preparedness and Response, Song of the Week

EHSDA Song of the Week: Are You Ready

As EHSDA’s Emergency Preparedness Week comes to a close, one overarching and obvious theme that emerged was readiness. Advanced planning and preparation are vital to ensuring that businesses can handle what disasters throw at them. To wit, the Song of the Week features the great Thin Lizzy asking a very important question: “Are You Ready?”

Hailing from Dublin, Thin Lizzy was a perpetually underrated hard rock act led by singer/bassist Phil Lynott from 1969 to 1983. They were overshadowed by bigger arena bands such as Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, but they grew a strong following in Europe and a smaller one in the U.S.

At their peak, the band released the legendary Live and Dangerous double album in 1978, featuring live performances of hits “The Boys Are Back in Town,” “Jailbreak,” and “Cowboy Song,” as well as a previously unreleased song called “Are You Ready.” The album only hit #84 on the U.S. album chart, but it went all the way to #2 in the U.K.

“Are You Ready” never showed up on a Thin Lizzy studio album, but it became a live favorite and was covered by several bands in the years to come, including a scorching version by the Rollins Band in 2000.
