In a notice and as required by the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), the EPA has issued its fourth contaminant candidate list (CCL 4). CCLs comprise contaminants that are not subject to any proposed or promulgated federal drinking water standards, are known or anticipated to occur in public water systems (PWSs), and may require regulation under the SDWA.
The listed contaminants include, but are not limited to, hazardous substances identified in Section 101 of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and substances registered as pesticides under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). Under the 1996 amendments to the SDWA, the EPA must publish a CCL every 5 years.
