Today marks the end of EHS Daily Advisor’s EHS Leadership Week, so to commemorate a great week full of content and activities, the EHSDA Song of the Week is “Follow the Leader” by legendary hip hop duo Eric B. & Rakim.
The title track of the group’s second album, 1988’s “Follow the Leader” is a tour de force that features Rakim’s electrifying high-speed raps taking down his opponents at every turn. The song was also revolutionary for the way it used a buzzing bassline and minimal jazz and funk samples.
Although it wasn’t as well-known outside the hip hop community, the song reached #11 on the Billboard Dance Club chart and #16 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart. The “Follow the Leader” video aired on the pilot episode of “Yo! MTV Raps” and the album hit #22 on the Billboard album chart.
