New Rule Requires CMV Passengers to Wear Seat Belts

Passengers riding in commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) will soon be required to use seat belts whenever the vehicles are operated on public roads in interstate commerce.

As of June 8, motor carriers and drivers will be held responsible for ensuring that passengers riding in these vehicles buckle up. The rule was announced June 6 by the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
