UST Operator Training Checklist

Is your facility subject to UST operator training for one of the following operators?:

  • Class A operators having primary responsibility for on-site operation and maintenance of UST systems? Y/N
  • Class B operators having daily on-site responsibility for the operation and maintenance of UST systems? Y/N
  • Class C operators having daily on-site responsibility for addressing emergencies caused by a spill or release from a UST system? Y/N

EPA’s UST operator training under this Act does not apply to:

  • UST systems regulated under 40 CFR 280.10(b); and        Y/N
  • UST systems deferred by regulation at 40 CFR 280.10(c). Y/N

UST operators must, at a minimum, be trained according to the following EPA Guidelines (EPA-510-R-07-005):

    • Class A Operator:
    • General knowledge of UST system requirements in order to make informed decisions regarding compliance and ensure appropriate individuals are fulfilling operation, maintenance, and recordkeeping requirements of 40 CFR 280 or approved state requirements regarding spill and overfill prevention, corrosion protection, release detection, emergency response, and product compatibility  Y/N
      • Financial responsibility documentation requirements Y/N
      • Notification requirements Y/N
      • Release and suspected release reporting Y/N
      • Temporary and permanent closure requirements Y/N
      • Operator training requirements (and retraining requirements if UST is out of compliance) Y/N

    • Class B Operator:
